The Pop Sounds of the 70's! Early 70s had the 60s sounds giving way to the newer grittier sounds due to the Vietnam war. The Late 70s seen Disco and electronic music take hold to a world that wanted to party and loosen up. Soul , Disco, Soft Rock, Bubblegum Pop, Hard Rock, & a healthy supply of Novelty plus One Hit Wonders!

Elton John, Bee Gees, Carpenters, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, Barry Manilow, Donna Summer, The Osmonds, Paul McCartney and....... _____________ (YOU fill in the blank!)

Today the American sounds of 70s Country music is known as Classic Country, pre "Urban Cowboy" days. Dolly Parton, Charlie Daniels Band, Crystal Gayle, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard to name just a few! What is your favorite Country classic from the decade?

70s Disco, defined so much music after its time in the mainstream. From Urban to Pop Disco, Electronic to the deep Club hits. Studio 54 to your Radio.

Donna Summer, KC & The Sunshine Band, Bee Gees, Van McCoy, Abba, Gloria Gaynor, Chic, Village People were a few of the MANY acts helping us dance the night away!

Soul, Funk, Disco, Rhythm & Blues, on your radio, and SOUL TRAIN on your TV!

Earth Wind & Fire, Diana Ross, Mrvin Gaye, Roberta Flack and Commodores are a few that shaped the gave us the Golden Grooves of the 70s!

While Alternative rock sometimes seemed to be the only rock around, there were other acts rockin' away in various degrees.

Black Sabbath, Heart, KISS, Boston, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Eagles. Rock on!

The 70s was by far, one of the most diverse decades, including the softer sounds, which were welcomed after the Vietnam war, in between the Hard Rockers and the Disco beats.

Olivia Newton John, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Maureen McGovern, Captain & Tennille, Al Stewart, America and Dionne Warwick were among the biggest.

What songs were you slow dancing in between Disco songs and daydreaming of love in the 70's?

Well, this is the old standby, "Other" category. Instrumental, Jazz, or anything else that won't fit on the other categories above!

Commercials in the 1970s were always creative. Whether it was the K-Tel Record Album commercials, or for "IDEAL" toys, or Tyco? Maybe you remember Cap'n Crunch or Count Chocula cereal commercials? Crying Indian or Smokey the Bear Public Service Announcement ads?

The 70s was full of Movies and Soundtracks. What was your liking? Saturday Night Fever (soundtrack to Disco), Grease (Throwback to the 50's), Star Wars, Rocky, The Poseidon Adventure..... I can go on, but that is YOUR job to do here!

What were you reading in the 70s? If you are old enough to remember the 70s, then you were reading something, since there was no internet! Newspapers, Magazines, Newsletters, Books?

Anyone remember those teeny bopper magazines that centered around Shaun Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, Andy Gibb, Leif Garrett, John Travolta and all the other heart throbs of the 70's?

In the 1970's, a remote control was considered "cutting edge" and a luxury! Even a Color TV! 19 inches was the Cat's Meow". A computer was an Atari 400 or 800. Microwave ovens were the craze. Touch tone phones? Cassette tapes over took reel to reel and 8 tracks!

What technology did you use and thought could not get better than it was in the 70's?

There was no Satellite, Cable was only in remote regions with no regular TV signal, and was a handful of channels at best. Network television was the place to be in front of the TV with the family.

All In the Family, Good Times, Three's Company, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Happy Day's, Maude, M*A*S*H, Welcome Back Kotter, The Waltons, CHiPS, Emergency, Mork & Mindy. There are a ton of series to discuss here, as it seems every series spawned a few other series from it!

What sitcoms were your favorite. Which ones got on your nerves?

The 70s saw the creation of Video Games, 1st upright consoles in public locations, for a quarter let you play using paddles in front of a color screen. The other type were box units which hooked up to your TV and provided fun at home.

Atari 2600 launched in 1977, Pong for TV was manufactured in 1973. Atari 400/800 & the Apple II were personal computers but could play games on them.

Which was your fave of the 70s? Which did you own? What stories of Pac Man and other stand up consoles do you have to share?

What types of clothing were popular in the 70's? Polyester? "Elevator" aka Platform shoes? What fashion statements were made?

Still have that John Travolta White suit he sported on the dance floor in Saturday Night Fever? :P

Ahhhhh, memories. Good & bad. Happy or Sad? Where were you? (Do you even remember the 70's??? If you remember, then you were not partying enough! (Grin) What were you doing?

Were you stuck in long gas lines during the shortage of the 1970's? Follow the Nixon Impeachment following Watergate? Saddened by the unfolding events of Vietnam? Happy remembering the dance moves of the Hustle, Popcorn, Bus Stop, or the Latin Hustle?

What fads did you like the most? What were such a "flash in the pan" that you forgot about them?

Pet Rock? CB Radio.... 23 or 40 Channel model? Sport an Afro? Hairy chest with your gold chain and cross dangling behind your unbuttoned shirt down to your belt line? Mood ring? Magic 8 Ball? Or maybe you were a STREAKER! :-)
