70's On Demand!

On behalf of the whole staff and management of 70s On Demand, we welcome you. We hope this and all upcoming visits are fun and bring back some memories (Because if you REALLY lived through the 70s, you probably don't remember much from all the fun), while sharing some of yours with others!

The 1970s was a very diverse decade. It started out with Vietnam raging, President Nixon leaving office over "Watergate" and ended with people trying to forget about it in the Disco's. Gas shortages plagued the pumps & motorists. People were "Streakin'", or proud of their "Pet Rocks". The free airwaves of CB or Citizen Band Radios, were no longer just for trucker's in "Convoy's", but for everyone to key down and "RagChew"!

Pop Music was transforming from the sweet fun 60's Pop to more underground raw gritty sounds reflecting the civil unrest and war. To counterbalance, the soft sounds from the Carpenters and The Osmond's prevailed. By the mid 70's, Soul, funk and Urban sounds merged with rock and synth driven instruments to bring us "Disco". By the end of 1979, Rock and New Wave was in, as the Disco movement was brought to a screeching halt by a then little known "Steve Dahl" which staged a "Disco Sucks" halftime spectacle at a Chicago White Sox baseball game. That prompted the crowd to spiral out of control and destroy the field, causing the rest of the game and the doubleheader game to be canceled. Top 40 was still dominating AM Radio with such greats as WLS & WCFL Chicago, WABC New York and KHJ Los Angeles. But that was being replaced quickly by FM Stereo, allowing clearer and much richer sounding reception of music. The #1 song of the decade was Debby Boone's "You Light Up My Life" in 1977, #1 for 10 weeks.

In the 1970s the big screen was on fire with MAJOR smash hits like Grease, Saturday Night Fever, The GodFather, Star Wars, Jaws, Animal House...... I need to stop here. I could go on forever. So, I need YOU to pick up the conversation on the chat boards!

Enough of me, This place is here for you! We want to hear your favorite memories. Music, movies, clothing, fads, whatever is the 1970s!

Time to head off and meet up at Leapin' Leo's crib, where he has the Bee Gees LP's, a few Farrah Fawcett look a likes and bourbon on the rocks waiting! Dyno-mite!

70's On Demand! YES! There Was Life Before the Internet!

Warm Regards, (aka Good night, John-boy)
